About Tampico and Playa Miramar
Tampico grew in the early 20th century with the oil boom, when companies from the United States and Europe built the iron-balconied buildings around Plaza de la Libertad. Today the city and neighboring Ciudad Madero form one of the largest urban areas on the Gulf of Mexico. Summer is hot and humid; Easter week and July–August are the busiest beach seasons.
